Alert shoppers when a sold out product returns with Klaviyo

An AI agent helps WhatsApp shoppers who ask for a sold out size and signs them up for the Klaviyo back in stock alert, without duplicating them.

How do I alert a WhatsApp customer when the size or color they wanted is back in stock?

A Met connected to Klaviyo looks up in the catalog the product the person asks about on WhatsApp and finds the exact variant, such as the size or color. If it is sold out, it asks for their email, creates or updates their Klaviyo profile without duplicating it and signs them up for that variant's back in stock alert. When inventory returns, Klaviyo writes to them with your account's back in stock flow. Only if the person agrees to receive news does the Met also add them to your list. Met does not send the alert: Klaviyo does.

What starts it

When the customer writes

It starts when someone writes on WhatsApp asking about a product, size or color that is not available. There is no trigger to configure: the Met assigned to the line runs the procedure inside that conversation.

Nothing to set up. The Met assigned to that channel picks up the conversation and runs the procedure inside it.

Who runs it

Store support Met

Social team

This is not a named, seeded Met. It is the Met that already answers the store's WhatsApp, with Klaviyo connected. Its work ends when the person is subscribed to the right variant's alert and knows which channel it will arrive through.

The procedure, step by step

Each step shows the tool that runs. They belong to the real connector: if one of them stopped existing, this page would not build.

  1. 1

Find the product in the catalog

The Met searches the catalog Klaviyo synced from your store for the product the person names and opens it to confirm it is the same one. If several look alike, it asks which one before moving on, instead of subscribing them to one they did not want.

  2. 2

Find the exact sold out variant

The back in stock alert works per variant, not per product. The Met lists the variants and picks the size or color the person asked for. If that variant is in stock, there is nothing to subscribe and the Met tells them so.

  3. 3

Create or update the profile without duplicates

The Met asks for the email, which is the channel Klaviyo will use for the alert, and creates the profile. If one already existed with that email or phone, it updates it instead of creating another. It never makes up an email to fill the field.

  4. 4

Sign them up for the back in stock alert

With the profile and the variant identified, the Met creates the back in stock subscription. From there the work belongs to Klaviyo: when inventory returns, your account's back in stock flow writes to them through the configured channel.

  5. 5

Add them to your list only if they agree

Finally, the Met asks whether the person also wants to receive your news. Only with a yes does it add them to the list you chose for WhatsApp. Without that yes, they stay subscribed only to the alert for the variant they asked about.

FAQ

Questions about this automation

There is no alert to create. The Met tells the person the size or color is available and continues the normal sales conversation, without subscribing them to anything.

Because Klaviyo sends the alert and needs its own channel to reach them. The WhatsApp number of the conversation is not a Klaviyo channel.

It avoids it: the profile action first looks the person up by email or phone and updates the existing profile instead of creating another one.

Whatever your Klaviyo plan counts, such as active profiles and sends. Met does not charge Energy for the Klaviyo calls; the cost stays in your Klaviyo account.
