Shippo and Meteor AI agents
Connect Shippo to a Met: compare carrier rates, buy the label, track the package and validate addresses with Shippo's official MCP.
How does Shippo connect to Meteor?
With the Shippo ready connector, your Met uses Shippo's official MCP server on your account, authorized once with OAuth. It brings four tools that work as a gateway to the whole API: one lists the operations, another describes their parameters, one runs reads and another runs writes. With that your Met validates an address, creates the shipment, compares rates from USPS, UPS, FedEx, DHL and the other connected carriers, buys the label and tracks the package to answer the customer on WhatsApp. It also prepares the customs declaration for an international shipment. Buying labels spends money from your Shippo account, so the admin decides whether writing stays on.
Where it applies: Estados Unidos. Shippo ships mostly from the United States. Its help center lists carriers by origin country for Canada, Australia and several European countries, and for the rest only DHL Express, FedEx or UPS.
What it automates
What a Meteor Met does with Shippo
Quote shipping while the customer buys
With the customer's address and the package weight, your Met creates the shipment in Shippo and replies with the rates and delivery times of each connected carrier.
Buy the label for a paid order
With writing turned on, the Met buys the label for the chosen rate and gives you back the tracking number and the label to print.
Answer where a package is
The customer asks about their shipment and the Met checks tracking in Shippo with the tracking number and tells them its status and where it was last scanned.
Validate the address before shipping
Before creating the shipment, the Met validates and normalizes the address so the label does not go out with data the carrier rejects.
4 tools
Everything your Met can ask Shippo for
Each one is a real action in the connector. You can switch off the ones you would rather it never used.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
shippo_list_tools | Lists the available Shippo operations, such as addresses, shipments, rates, labels or tracking. |
shippo_describe_tool | Describes the parameters a Shippo operation needs before running it. |
shippo_read_execute_tool | Runs a read operation, such as quoting rates, tracking a package or validating an address. |
shippo_write_execute_tool | Runs an operation that changes something, such as creating a shipment, buying a label or requesting a pickup. Starts turned off. |
The limits
What the Shippo integration does NOT do
We would rather say it here than have you find out during rollout.
-
It is not built for shipping from Colombia with local carriers. Shippo works mostly with shipments that leave the United States, Canada, Australia and Europe.
-
It does not ask you for confirmation in the chat before writing. The admin chooses which actions stay on, and every write goes through shippo_write_execute_tool: turning it on enables buying labels.
-
It does not pay for labels. Each label bought is charged to your Shippo account with the rates of your plan or of the carrier accounts you connected.
-
It does not pick up or deliver the package. Shippo creates the label and tracking; the carrier does the pickup and delivery.
-
It does not replace your store integration. The Met works on the shipments in your Shippo account; if the order lives on another platform, that part goes through its own connector.
Before you start
What you need to connect Shippo
- 1
A Shippo account
The account you buy labels with in Shippo, with a payment method on file and the carrier accounts you want to use.
- 2
Connect it in Met
In Met go to Connections → Shippo → Connect. You sign in to Shippo and authorize access. There is no key to paste into the chat.
- 3
Decide whether writing stays on
The workspace admin decides whether to turn on shippo_write_execute_tool. If you only want to quote and track, leave the read tools on.
Frequently asked questions
Questions about Shippo and Meteor
Because Shippo exposes its full API through a gateway: the Met lists the operation, checks its parameters and runs it as a read or a write. Behind it there are shipments, rates, labels, tracking, customs and pickups.
Yes, with the carriers Shippo handles from your origin country. The Met prepares the customs declaration and its items before buying the label.
Yes. Leave the write tool off: quoting rates, validating addresses and tracking are reads.
You do, with your Shippo account: the plan and each label you buy. Met does not charge for the calls your Met makes to Shippo.
