Perplexity and Meteor AI agents
Connect Perplexity to a Met: search the web with cited results, ask, research in depth and reason step by step with your API account.
How does Perplexity connect to Meteor?
With the Perplexity ready connector, your Met uses Perplexity's official MCP server with the account and API organization the admin authorizes. It has four tools: a web search that returns ranked results with title, link and snippet; a quick question with live search; an in depth research with citations for complex topics; and step by step reasoning to compare options or decide. Every query spends Perplexity API credits from your organization.
What it automates
What a Meteor Met does with Perplexity
Check a fact before answering
When the answer depends on something that changes, such as a requirement or a current rule, the Met searches the web and replies with the source link instead of answering from memory.
Prepare a report with sources
Before a meeting or a big purchase, the Met researches a competitor, a supplier or a market in depth and gives you a summary with citations.
Help decide between options
If you have to choose between two suppliers or two plans, the Met reasons step by step with the criteria you give it and makes clear why it recommends one.
4 tools
Everything your Met can ask Perplexity for
Each one is a real action in the connector. You can switch off the ones you would rather it never used.
| Tool | What it does |
|---|---|
perplexity_search | Searches the web and returns ranked results with title, link, snippet and metadata. |
perplexity_ask | Answers quick, everyday questions with live web search. |
perplexity_research | Researches a complex topic in depth and returns an analysis with citations. |
perplexity_reason | Reasons step by step about logical problems, complex analysis and decisions. |
The limits
What the Perplexity integration does NOT do
We would rather say it here than have you find out during rollout.
-
It does not query for free. Every tool spends Perplexity API credits from the organization you chose when authorizing, at standard Perplexity API pricing.
-
It does not search inside your systems. It searches the public web; your business data comes from other integrations.
-
It does not guarantee the source tells the truth. The Met shows where it got the fact; checking the source before an important decision is still on you.
-
It does not have more than four tools. Perplexity's server does not save reports or write anywhere: it searches, answers, researches and reasons.
Before you start
What you need to connect Perplexity
- 1
A Perplexity API account
A Perplexity account that is admin of an API organization able to pay for usage. When authorizing you choose which organization pays for the queries.
- 2
Connect it in Met
In Met, open Connections → Perplexity → Connect. A Perplexity window opens so you sign in, choose the API organization and authorize Met.
Frequently asked questions
Questions about Perplexity and Meteor
For a specific fact it uses search or the quick question; for a topic that needs many sources, in depth research; to compare options, reasoning.
Yes. Search returns the title and link of each result, and in depth research brings citations, so the Met can paste the link in the reply.
Because it is an in depth research of a complex topic, with citations. For quick questions, search or the quick question are better.
You do, with your organization's Perplexity API credits. Met does not charge for the queries your Met makes to Perplexity.
