Closing a sale on WhatsApp: how far the agent goes and where the rep takes over

Which part of the close an agent can handle on WhatsApp: settling the last doubt, handing over the payment link and recording it. And what stays with the rep.

Can an AI agent close a sale on WhatsApp all the way to payment?

It can take the sale to payment when there is nothing to negotiate: it settles the last doubt by checking price and availability, builds the order, hands over the payment link and confirms once the payment clears. That is where it stops. The moment a discount, a term, an exception or a large purchase with several decision-makers appears, the case belongs to the rep, and the agent hands it over with everything discussed rather than improvising a condition somebody else will have to honour.

Most sales that fall over in a chat do not fall over on price. They fall over because somebody asked something, the answer took too long, and by the time it arrived the person had moved on. Or because at the end there was no way to pay at the moment they had decided.

The last doubt is the close

There is almost always one: whether it arrives before Friday, whether it comes in another colour, whether it can be paid in instalments, whether there is an invoice. None of those is an objection: it is the last thing missing before deciding.

Answering it right then, against the real data, is literally the close. Everything else in the process already happened.

Payment has to fit inside the conversation

Sending somebody somewhere else to pay means losing a share of the sales that were already decided. Handing over the link right there, as in the Mercado Pago recipe or by collecting through PSE and Nequi, removes that step. What Meteor can and cannot do on each gateway is in the Mercado Pago and Wompi entries.

Which of the two matters more than it looks: in many businesses the available payment method is what decides whether the sale closes today or gets postponed.

And payment is confirmed against the system

Not against the receipt the customer sends. That is the oldest way to let a payment that never happened slip through, and the agent has no way to tell a real screenshot from an edited one. The closing Met confirms when the payment system says so.

Where the rep comes in

Discount, term, exception, special condition, large purchase with several decision-makers. All five share something: they commit the company to something nobody planned for.

The agent recognises them and hands the case over with everything discussed. It is not a technical limitation: whoever grants a condition has to be somebody who can stand behind it.

And no means no

A follow-up is not a chain of messages. The full journey, with the limit of each step written down, is in the WhatsApp sales solution.

Questions on this topic

It goes to the rep. A discount granted in conversation by an automated system is a condition somebody has to honour later, and the one honouring it is not the one who gave it.

From the payment system, not because the customer says they paid. Confirming against a receipt somebody sends is the oldest way to let a payment that never happened slip through.

On a large deal it helps with the front half: gathering requirements, settling questions and preparing the case. The close stays with a person, and that is not a technical limitation.
