Check on WhatsApp which alert fired in Grafana Cloud and open the incident

Ask on WhatsApp whether something is down: an AI agent checks the alerts in Grafana Cloud, tells you who is on call and opens the incident.

How do I know which alert fired in Grafana and who is on call without opening the dashboard?

You write to your Met "is something down?". The Met lists in Grafana Cloud the alert groups that fired in the last hour, opens the latest one and tells you which alert it is. Then it checks your team's on-call schedules and tells you who is on call right now. If you ask it to open the incident and the connection has write permission, the Met creates it and adds to its timeline a note with what was said on WhatsApp. Grafana counts MCP server usage toward Grafana Assistant, so check your plan before using this procedure.

What starts it

When someone asks for it

It starts when someone on the team asks the Met on WhatsApp whether something is down. The Met does not watch alerts on its own: for automatic alerts, Grafana has its own notifications.

A manual task: someone on the team runs it with a button, or asks the Met for it in chat.

Who runs it

Internal Met that checks your Grafana Cloud alerts

This is not a named, seeded Met. It is an internal Met with Grafana Cloud connected, for the owner or the agency that maintains the platform: its work ends when it tells you which alert fired, who is on call and, if you ask, the incident is created.

5 steps · 6 tools

The procedure, step by step

Each step shows the tool that runs. They belong to the real connector: if one of them stopped existing, this page would not build.

  1. 1

    List the alerts that fired

The Met lists the alert groups filtered by state and by the last hour, to see what is firing right now.

  2. 2

    Open the latest alert

The Met brings the details of the latest alert group by ID and tells you which alert it is and what those details say.

  3. 3

    See who is on call

The Met lists your team's on-call schedules and brings the people currently on call in that schedule, so you know who to call.

  4. 4

Open the incident if you ask

If you ask it to and the connection has write permission, the Met creates a new incident in Grafana with the alert's name.

  5. 5

    Leave the report note

The Met adds to the incident's timeline a note with what was said on WhatsApp and confirms it is open.

FAQ

Questions about this automation

No. It tells you who is on call according to Grafana; calling or messaging them is up to you or another instruction to the Met.

According to Grafana, MCP server usage counts toward Grafana Assistant and each connected user counts as an active user. Check the Assistant pricing page for your plan.

In this procedure it only opens one when you ask. If you authorized write access, the action stays on in Connections unless the admin turns it off.
