Answer today's sales on WhatsApp with your Metabase questions

Ask on WhatsApp how much was sold today: an AI agent runs your Metabase saved question with the right filter and replies.

How do I ask how much we sold today without opening Metabase?

You write to your Met "how much did we sell today in Medellín?". The Met checks your Metabase glossary for what counts as a sale, finds the saved question that already measures it, reads how it is built and which filters it accepts, checks the valid values of the city filter and runs it. It replies with the result Metabase returned. If there is no saved question for that, it builds a query with Metabase's query language on the sales table and tells you it is a new query. Everything runs with the permissions of the person who connected Metabase, and nothing is written.

What starts it

When someone asks for it

It starts when someone on the team asks the Met for a business figure. Each query runs on request; for scheduled deliveries, Metabase has its own alerts and subscriptions.

A manual task: someone on the team runs it with a button, or asks the Met for it in chat.

Who runs it

Analytics Met with your Metabase questions

This is not a named, seeded Met. It is an internal Met with your Metabase connected: its work ends when it replies with the result of the saved question or the query, or when it says it has no permission to see it.

5 steps · 6 tools

The procedure, step by step

Each step shows the tool that runs. They belong to the real connector: if one of them stopped existing, this page would not build.

  1. 1

Check what a sale means in your business

The Met looks up the term in your Metabase glossary. If your team defined a sale as a paid order and not a created one, the Met answers with that definition and not its own.

  2. 2

    Find the saved question

The Met searches your Metabase for the question or model that already measures today's sales. Using what your team already built keeps two people from seeing two figures for the same thing.

  3. 3

Read how it is built and which filters it takes

The Met brings the question's details, with its definition and parameters, and checks the valid values of the city filter to write "Medellín" exactly as the question expects.

  4. 4

    Run the question and reply

The Met runs the saved question with the filter and replies with the result. If the connected account has no permission to see it, it tells you instead of looking for another source.

  5. 5

Build a query if the question does not exist

If there is no saved question for that, the Met builds a query with Metabase's query language on the sales table and makes clear it is a new query, not the official figure of a dashboard.

Questions about this automation

Yes. The same path works for any saved question: orders, receivables or inventory, if the connected account can see them.

Not in this procedure. It uses saved questions and Metabase's query language. Custom SQL is another action, which Metabase marks as able to overwrite or delete and which starts turned off.

Metabase has alerts and subscriptions that deliver a question by email or Slack. This procedure runs on request on WhatsApp.
