Ask on WhatsApp for Google Ads spend and clicks by campaign with Dataslayer

Ask on WhatsApp for Google Ads spend and clicks by campaign: an AI agent queries them in Dataslayer and replies to you.

How do I see Google Ads spend and clicks by campaign for the last week without opening Google Ads?

You write to your Met "send me the spend and clicks by Google Ads campaign for the last 7 days". The Met confirms in Dataslayer that you have Google Ads connected, finds your accounts, checks which metrics and dimensions that source has and passes the request to Dataslayer, which resolves accounts, fields and dates and runs the query. It replies with each campaign's spend and clicks. If the query is still in progress, it gives you its task_id to follow it. The shared limit of 50 API calls per day applies, and the Met does not change anything in your campaigns.

What starts it

When someone asks for it

It starts when someone on the team asks the Met for Google Ads figures for a period. Each query runs on request; this procedure does not leave a scheduled report or an alert.

A manual task: someone on the team runs it with a button, or asks the Met for it in chat.

Social team

This is not a named, seeded Met. It is an internal Met with Dataslayer connected: its work ends when it delivers the figures the query returned, or when it tells you which source or account it did not find in Dataslayer.

The procedure, step by step

Each step shows the tool that runs. They belong to the real connector: if one of them stopped existing, this page would not build.

  1. 1

    Confirm Google Ads is connected

The Met checks which data sources you have connected in Dataslayer. If Google Ads is not among them, it tells you, because the source is connected in Dataslayer first.

  2. 2

    Find the accounts

The Met lists the Google Ads accounts you have in Dataslayer, to query the right one or ask you which one if there are several.

  3. 3

    Check metrics and dimensions

The Met checks which metrics and dimensions Google Ads has in Dataslayer, to ask for spend, clicks and campaign with the right name.

  4. 4

    Ask for the data

The Met passes the full request to Dataslayer, which resolves the source, accounts, fields and dates for the last 7 days and runs the query.

  5. 5

    Follow an in-progress query

If the query comes back in progress, the Met gives you its task_id. When you ask whether it finished, it checks that task_id, and if the result comes in parts and you ask for more, it brings the next page.

  6. 6

    Watch the daily cap

If the team runs many queries in a day, the Met checks your plan, your limits and your usage, to know where you stand against Dataslayer's 50 API calls per day.

FAQ

Questions about this automation

Yes, if you have it connected in Dataslayer. The Met follows the same steps with that data source.

Because the query is still running and Dataslayer returned it in progress. Ask it later whether it finished and the Met checks it with that task_id.

This procedure runs on request. A scheduled delivery would be a different automation, with its own trigger.
